As her life partner, I too embraced Lupe’s commitment to helping underserved student communities find their ladder to prosperity  guiding them toward gainful employment with America’s top employers in science-based fields.
 

Our conversations about the challenges and opportunities in bringing successful STEM programs online often centered on understanding corporate culture around Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI), as well as the political will within government to support these efforts for students. As you can imagine, we always found opportunities to strengthen these programs for all parties involved: our nation, our industries, and, most importantly, our students and future employees.
 

Today, our traditional community STEM programs are rapidly deteriorating. They are challenged not only by a coordinated governmental campaign to dismantle and defund DEI initiatives, but also by the explosive growth, discovery, and adaptation of Artificial Intelligence (A.I.) across private and public sectors.
 

STEM experts are deeply concerned that our current education system is lagging behind in adapting curricula to meet these new challenges. That gap is magnified many times over when it comes to underrepresented and underfunded communities.
 

My commitment, through Lupe’s foundation, is to bring greater awareness to policymakers and education leaders encouraging them to learn more about the rapidly evolving field of A.I. and to help build pathways, or ladders, for our students to secure their place in tomorrow’s workforce.
